Where It All Began
LAOS first started performing in Loughborough in 1895, officially registering with NODA in 1899 for our production of The Sorceror. This took place in the local church hall where carriages were available to take you home from 10:15pm sharp! Over the following decades LAOS performed in a number of venues across the town and under a variety of names, finally settling on Loughborough Amateur Operatic Society in 1939. This is now abbreviated to LAOS.

NODA
LAOS is affiliated to the National Operatic and Dramatic Association.
Patron: The Lord Lloyd Webber and Connie Fisher
President: Nick Lawrence
East Midlands Area Councillor: Miss Nanette Lovell
NODA was established in 1899 for the express purpose of bringing together amateur dramatic societies for their mutual assistance and combined benefit. Membership has great benefits as NODA helps societies to locate anything from Stand-In Principals, unusual props, any elusive piece of music to a technical item necessary for a successful production.
The association runs summer schools with professional tutors for performers, directors, choreographers and technical staff as well as a national conference and two area conferences providing opportunities for members to meet and discuss matters of common interest.
