Birthday Boy !

Last month Len Dobson celebrated his 80th birthday and therefore well deserves his sitting role in the opening scene!  We sang Happy Birthday to him the week of his birthday and wish him many happy returns!

The Unstoppable !

After our hard working Carl Bateson had to pull out of West Side Story following illness and a major operation, we are delighted that he is back with us on stage and once again tirelessly running around after programme advertisers.  He will offer to show anyone his impressive scar and tells strangers it was a shark bite !  Unbelievably, he has only missed one Sweet Charity rehearsal when he has been on holiday despite undergoing a chemotherapy regime.

University Freshers

A couple of weeks ago we said farewell to Iona King who has crewed for us for several recent shows having appeared on stage as a youngster in Oliver! (2006) and The Likes of Us (2009).  Having developed a real interest for backstage work, and following a two year extended diploma in production arts in Leicester, Iona has gone to the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in London to do a degree in Theatre Practice and prop making.   We will also be saying farewell to Rowan Beaumont after Sweet Charity when she also leaves for London to University College (UCL) to study for a degree in Linguistics after achieving some fantastic A level results.

(Un)Lucky Break

Alison Matthews started rehearsals with us for Sweet Charity but unfortunately broke her wrist a few weeks ago. Having had to have surgery she has to be careful of it and therefore had to pull out of the show.   Although she can’t be with us on stage she is also helping with the prompting during this week.

Fond Farewell

After an amazing twenty-six years as Treasurer for LAOS, Maralyn Speight stepped down from the role and the committee at our AGM in June for a well-earned retirement.  However a staunch supporter of LAOS, Maralyn will be prompting for us during this week’s show.

LAOS nominated for NODA Awards

LAOS are very proud to announce that we have been nominated for Best Musical for our wonderful production of Aida! (March 2014).  And…. we have also been nominated for the Aida poster and programme too.  This year’s NODA Awards day is June 14th 2015.  Go Team LAOS !!!!
