Well Done!

Well done to Jack Cooling who is off to Manchester Metropolitan University to study Events Management! He goes on September 17th, the day after our show closes! All the very best for your studies Jack.

Carl Bateson

It is with very great sadness that LAOS announce that much-loved member, Carl Bateson passed away on Thursday, 20th April. Carl joined LAOS in 2012 for our production of Pirates of Penzance which he said was his favourite show. Happy talking to anyone and everyone Carl was a very popular member right from the start.

Sadly after some months of ill health he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2015 and because of major surgery had to pull out of LAOS’ production of West Side Story in March 2015 but returned for Sweet Charity! Ever one to make light of his illness, he told unsuspecting people on holiday and in the dressing rooms that his impressive scar from the surgery was the result of a shark bite !

Unfortunately the cancer returned and Carl had more chemotherapy in 2016, but ever-determined to work for others, he arranged a charity fund-raising night in conjunction with LAOS in September 2016 which raised over £2,000 for the two cancer charities Cancer Research and Hope Against Cancer.

He will be very sadly missed by all his friends at LAOS, in the Loughborough theatre world and beyond.

Unexpected “cast”ing!!

Wednesday night’s performance of Rock Of Ages took it’s toll on one of LAOS’s principal performers who unfortunately took the phrase “break a leg” a little further than is usually intended. Lianne O’Connor (playing the part of City Planner, Regina) managed to break her foot whilst dancing on stage early in act two.

Undeterred by this dramatic incident she totally rocked & rolled her way back on to stage in a wheel chair Thursday night and was just as amazing as ever!! To quote one happy show-goer “You would never have known she wasn’t meant to be in a wheelchair”.  What a pro!!

We wish you a very speedy recovery!! (And maybe you could find a slightly less theatrical way of getting out of wearing turquoise lyrca next time?!)

Rock of Ages is a “brilliant show with a brilliant cast”.

Rock of Ages is a “brilliant show with a brilliant cast”

The musical left me, and I’m sure many others, singing 1980s rock songs all the way home.

Rock of Ages will make you wish “you wish you were born in a different era”.

LEATHER boots, crimped hair and plenty of eyeliner… LAOS took to the stage with Rock of Ages last night and the group hit all the right notes…..

Best Wishes To Our Chairman

Best wishes to our Chairman, Natalie Littlewood, who spent several days in hospital recently following a spinal injury, but thankfully is now well on the road to recovery and says she intends to be “fighting fit” for our next show, Rock Of Ages.
